FAQS
-
How long is a counselling session?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes in duration. Occasionally an extended session may be recommended.
-
What should I expect in the first session?
In our first meeting, the goal is to get to know each other better. You’ll be able to share more detail about what has brought you into the counselling space and what you hope to gain from our sessions. We’ll also collaborate on what to expect for future sessions.
Our goal is to create a space that is collaborative, non-judgemental, creative, and safe for the process of healing and change.
-
How many sessions will I need?
Each person is unique, it’s challenging to estimate the number of sessions from the outset. We’ll be able to determine the frequency of appointments to suit your needs after our first meeting. Typically clients come once a week or once every two weeks.
-
Are you offering in-person counselling?
Yes! We are now offering in-person sessions in Vancouver, BC on Friday from 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm.
-
How can I pay?
We accept e-transfers and credit card payments.
-
Do you offer low cost or sliding scale fees?
Yes, we recognize that reaching out for help is not always easy and fees should not be a barrier. We have a few sliding-scale spaces available for low-income individuals, please reach out to inquire.
-
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee of 100% of the session cost.
-
Are fees covered by extended health benefits?
Many extended health benefit plans (e.g. Pacific Blue Cross, Great West Life, Desjardins etc.) will reimburse for the services of a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), usually up to a set amount per year. I am a certified RCC.
I will provide you with a receipt that can be submitted to your health benefit provider.
We direct bill to ICBC with preapproval from ICBC.
-
Are my sessions confidential?
Anything that is discussed within our virtual counselling sessions will be kept in confidence even after our counselling relationship ends. However, there are circumstances in which I am legally and/or ethically obligated to break confidentiality. The circumstances are:
Informing Child Protective Services if there is a suspicion of a child being at risk or in need of protection due to neglect, or physical, sexual, or emotional abuse
Releasing a client’s file if the court orders to do so
Informing an appropriate family member, health care professional, or police if necessary of a client’s intention to end his or her own life
Informing a potential victim of violence of a client’s intention to harm
If confidentiality needs to be broken you will be informed beforehand. To ensure the integrity of our counselling relationship confidentiality can be addressed at any point during the counselling process.
